MERITUS Talent are working with one of Europe's leading defence manufacturers for the recruitment of a New Business Support Engineer to join their Stevenage office on an initial 6 month contract basis. The role is hyrbid working, and requires the right candidate to undergo an SC security clearance once in the position
About the role:
We’re looking for someone to join our Test Equipment team, supporting the delivery of costed technical proposals for new work across a range of UK and international defence programmes.
This is a key role in helping us plan and price up what’s needed to design, build, and deliver the test equipment that ensures our products meet the highest standards. You’ll be at the centre of the bidding process – gathering information from engineering teams, pulling together costs, working across departments, and helping present clear, well-structured bids to internal customers.
You don’t need to be a technical expert, but you do need to be organised, proactive, and comfortable communicating with engineers, project managers and stakeholders across the business.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Work with subject matter experts and technical teams to gather cost and planning data
-
Compile that data into professional, costed proposals for development, production, and export bids
-
Coordinate input from areas like hardware, software, procurement, quality, and manufacturing
-
Support the UK bid team to deliver accurate bids on time, with clear supporting documentation
-
Use tools like Excel, PowerPoint, JIRA, and Primavera (full training provided)
-
Help manage the flow of information across multiple live bids and programmes
-
Liaise with colleagues across the UK and France – occasional travel may be required
-
Maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders and support process improvement
What we’re looking for:
-
Experience working in or with engineering teams – ideally within defence, aerospace or manufacturing
-
Familiarity with cost estimation, bid support or proposal development
-
Comfortable working with data, spreadsheets, and project planning tools
-
Able to take initiative, manage deadlines and work across multiple tasks
-
Strong communicator – confident speaking with technical and non-technical teams
-
Willing to be based in Stevenage 2–3 days a week, especially during onboarding
-
Bonus points for knowledge of the full engineering life cycle or experience using Primavera (not essential)
Why join us?
You’ll be part of a small, focused team working at the heart of future defence programmes. The role is varied, collaborative, and offers real visibility within the business. You'll be supported with training and development, with flexibility around hybrid working and opportunities to collaborate internationally.
