MERITUS Talent are working with an industril engineering consultancy for the recruitment of a Hardware/Control Panel Design Engineer to join their Staffordshire office on a permanent, hybrid basis. This role will sit within their Nuclear department, and is paying a salary up to £70,000 per annum
Role Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Hardware/Control Panel Design Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering critical infrastructure projects within a regulated sector. The role involves the design of control panel and electrical systems using proprietary components, focusing on PLCs, MCCs, drives, controls, and switchgear. You will take part in end-to-end design, from concept to installation, and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders.
This position offers the chance to contribute to technically complex projects that support national infrastructure and energy transformation goals. Occasional travel may be required for site surveys and reviews.
Key Responsibilities

Design electrical panels and LV distribution systems

Develop electrical cabling and containment layouts

Prepare, review, and validate technical calculations and documentation

Create detailed design drawings using AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN P8

Liaise with production and site teams to deliver projects to completion

Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians

Engage with customers to clarify technical requirements and project constraints

Ensure compliance with UK wiring regulations ( BS7671) and low-voltage standards ( BS EN 61439-1)
Essential Skills & Experience

Strong experience designing control panels and LV electrical systems

Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN P8 (Pro Panel experience beneficial)

Degree or HND in a relevant engineering discipline

Solid understanding of electrical safety and environmental legislation

Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Able to work within multi-disciplinary teams and communicate with clients

Eligible for UK security clearance
Desirable Skills

Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g. nuclear, defence, utilities)

Knowledge of EMC practices

Working towards or already hold Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status

MEng or further academic qualification

Site-based experience (surveying or installation work)
