MERITUS are recruiting for a Building Services Engineer or Clerk of Works to join our client on an initial 12 month contract from their sites in either Portsmouth or Stevenage.

BUILDING SERVICES ENGINEER - INSIDE IR35 - £40 PER HOUR - PORTSMOUTH OR STEVENAGE - 12 MONTHS - UNDERGO SC CLEARANCE - SINGLE STAGE INTERVIEW - VERY LIKELY EXTENSIONS

We are seeking an experienced Building Services Engineer / Clerk of Works to provide on-site quality assurance across building services and fabric works. The role ensures that mechanical, electrical, and building installations are delivered in line with design intent, regulations, and quality standards.

You will act as the technical quality presence on site, supporting project teams to ensure issues are identified early and resolved effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular site inspections of M&E and building works to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and regulations.

  • Identify, record, and support resolution of defects and non-conformances.

  • Maintain site records, reports, and photographic evidence, providing clear updates to management.

  • Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship quality.

  • Act as a liaison between project managers, contractors, designers, and technical teams.

  • Ensure completion and accuracy of handover documentation(O&M manuals, as-builts, commissioning and safety files).

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Building Services Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, or similar.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building services systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Knowledge of Building Regulations, British Standards, and H&S legislation.

  • Excellent attention to detail, reporting, and communication skills.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD and digital tools.

  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Membership of ICWCI or similar professional body.

  • NEBOSH or equivalent H&S qualification.
