RF / Systems Engineer
Portsmouth | Hybrid (3 days onsite) | £50 per hour Umbrella | 6 months + likely extension

A leading defence and space organisation is looking for an experienced RF / Systems Engineer to join its satellite communications engineering team. This group develops advanced antenna systems and supporting equipment for land, sea and air platforms, with this role focused primarily on maritime applications.
What the role involves

Developing RF and microwave specifications from high-level system requirements

Defining operating frequencies, interfaces and performance criteria

Creating test and verification strategies for RF systems

Producing system diagrams and generating RF budgets across full Tx/Rx chains
-
Validating RF designs through analysis, simulation and measurement
-
Working across the full product lifecycle, from early design through to production and in-service support

Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, manufacturing and quality
What you’ll need
Essential
-
Strong knowledge of RF, microwave or mm-wave engineering

Ability to design or analyse RF circuits using 2.5D/3D tools

Understanding of EM field theory, RF materials and measurement techniques

Ability to verify compliance against system requirements

Experience working across full engineering lifecycle stages

Engineering degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
Desirable
-
Familiarity with military satellite communications standards (e.g. MIL-STD-188-164C)

Experience with maritime satellite communication systems
-
Chartered status (IET or equivalent)
