MERITUS Talent are working with a leading aerospace and defence organisation for the recruitment of a Safety and Regulatory Compliance Engineer to join their Hampshire location on an initial 6 month contract. The role is INSIDE IR35, paying £70 per hour via Umbrella and requires candidates to hold an existing Security Clearance.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Safety and Regulatory Compliance Engineer to join a leading defence organisation in Portsmouth. You’ll play a key part in ensuring safety and environmental compliance across a range of technically advanced engineering programmes, including military satellite communications and related defence systems.

Working within multi-disciplinary project teams, you’ll be responsible for ensuring all activities meet the highest safety, environmental, and regulatory standards throughout the full engineering lifecycle.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop and maintain Safety and Environmental Management Plans (SEMP) and Safety and Environmental Cases (SECR).

  • Chair Safety and Environmental Committee meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support product development to meet UK and EU regulatory requirements, including technical files and Declarations of Conformity.

  • Undertake or facilitate safety and environmental risk assessments across projects.

  • Provide expert advice to project and product teams on all safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance matters.


What You’ll Need

  • Proven experience with MOD Safety and Environmental Management processes, including:

    • ASEMS

    • DEF STAN 00-056 / 00-051

    • POSMS / POEMS

  • Strong understanding of UK and EU product compliance legislation.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Background in the defence, aerospace, or communications sector is highly desirable.

  • Experience with military satellite communications (MILSATCOM), particularly in maritime domains, is an advantage.

  • Active SC Clearance is essential for this position.
