MERITUS Talent are working with an industrial engineering consultancy for the recruitment of a Hardware/Control Panel Design Engineer to join their Staffordshire office on a permanent basis, with travel around the UK to customer sites. This role will sit within their energy department, and is paying a salary up to £40,000 per annum

Role Overview

A leading UK systems integration company working in energy, water, renewables and other regulated sectors is seeking a Site Technician to support on-site electrical installations across transmission, distribution, and power generation projects.

This is a site-based role focused on the assembly and wiring of protection and control systems. You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, and site supervisors to ensure safe, high-quality delivery of systems built to exacting technical standards. The position will involve regular travel across the UK.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out on-site wiring and installation of electrical protection and control systems

  • Read and work from detailed circuit diagrams, assembly drawings and wiring schedules

  • Perform mechanical assembly (cubicles, racking, traywork) and assist in equipment configuration

  • Support testing activities, including continuity, insulation resistance, high-voltage withstand, and function checks

  • Collaborate with site managers and engineers to resolve technical issues and meet delivery targets

  • Support the preparation and execution of temporary test rigs and isolations as required

  • Maintain quality records and contribute to inspection and test documentation


Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of site-based wiring experience

  • Background in E, C & I installations (e.g., substations, protection systems, or similar)

  • Able to interpret circuit diagrams, GAs, wiring schedules, and BOMs

  • Willing and able to travel to sites across the UK

  • Full UK driving licence


Desirable (Training/Certifications/Experience)

  • Mechanical assembly experience (cabinets, cable containment, framework)

  • Apprenticeship trained or qualified in relevant trade

  • Any of the following would be an advantage:

    • National Grid Person

    • SSSTS

    • ARC Flash awareness

    • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations

    • LOTO training

    • PASMA, Confined Space, Asbestos Awareness

    • Impressed Voltage awareness
