We are recruiting on behalf of a leading UK defence and engineering organisation for an experienced Facilities Project Manager to lead the delivery of infrastructure, construction and improvement projects across multiple South East sites.
The successful candidate will lead internal and external project teams from initial design and development through to final delivery, managing projects ranging from approximately £50k to £5m+. The role will require strong project and programme management skills, commercial awareness and the confidence to engage directly with senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver complex facilities and infrastructure projects to agreed cost, programme and quality requirements.
- Manage projects in accordance with established Project Delivery Processes.
- Lead projects through the relevant RIBA Plan of Work stages.
- Manage external consultants, contractors and construction partners throughout project delivery.
- Manage construction contracts, including variations, costs, change control and orders.
- Translate business and client requirements into practical built-environment solutions.
- Ensure projects comply with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, including Building Regulations, CDM and planning.
- Present complex project proposals, risks and recommendations clearly to senior stakeholders to secure approvals.
- Challenge requirements where appropriate, distinguishing between business needs and wants.
- Coordinate competing priorities across multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration across internal teams, consultants and contractors.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, autonomy and resilience while managing a varied workload.
- Maintain a positive, proactive and professional approach, including when working under pressure.
Essential / Desirable Experience
- Proven Facilities, Construction or Infrastructure Project Management experience.
- Strong people and project leadership skills.
- Experience managing projects from design through to completion.
- Good knowledge of construction contract management.
- Experience working through RIBA Plan of Work stages.
- Strong understanding of facilities/construction environments and relevant statutory compliance.
- Experience with Building Regulations, CDM and planning.
- Confident managing consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong commercial awareness, particularly around project costs, variations and change control.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including engagement with senior decision-makers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and deliver against programme, cost and quality objectives.
- HNC or higher in a relevant Construction, Facilities Management or engineering discipline would be advantageous.
