MERITUS are recruiting for a Laboratory Specialist to join our client within the aerospace manufacturing sector on a 12-month contract from their site in Broughton. This is a fully onsite role and will require candidates to undergo BPSS clearance prior to starting.

LABORATORY SPECIALIST - INSIDE IR35 - £39.45 PER HOUR - BROUGHTON - 12 MONTHS - BPSS CLEARANCE - CHEMICAL ANALYSIS - ONSITE INTERVIEW PROCESS - SECTOR: AEROSPACE MANUFACTURING

This position operates on a double-day shift pattern with a 20% shift uplift. Working hours alternate weekly between 06:00-13:10 and 13:30-20:40, Monday to Friday, with up to 8 weeks of night shifts per year required.

As a Laboratory Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting a wide range of laboratory testing activities to validate material properties, product integrity and process compliance. Working within a specialist materials laboratory, you will support production and engineering teams through detailed chemical analysis, process control activities and the investigation of material-related issues.

You will carry out chemical testing, sample preparation, data analysis and reporting, whilst supporting new product trials, process improvement initiatives and non-conformance investigations. This role requires a strong chemistry background combined with practical laboratory experience and a solid understanding of industrial manufacturing processes.

Skillset/experience required:

What can you bring to the role?

  • BSc or MSc in Chemistry or a closely related technical discipline
  • Alternatively HNC in Chemistry with relevant industrial laboratory experience
  • Hands-on experience within a chemical testing or analytical laboratory environment
  • Experience undertaking sample preparation, dilutions and chemical analysis
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques including IC, ICP-OES, XRF, FTIR and titration methods
  • Experience analysing and interpreting laboratory data and producing technical reports
  • Understanding of chemical surface treatments, coatings, plating and corrosion protection processes
  • Experience supporting process control, compliance and quality assurance activities
  • Ability to review technical specifications, industry standards and engineering documentation
  • Experience conducting root cause investigations and supporting non-conformance resolution
  • Knowledge of COSHH assessments and laboratory safety procedures
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience working to ISO, ASTM, AITM or similar industry standards would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 17025, SEM or metallurgical techniques would be beneficial
