MERITUS are recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our client within the defence manufacturing sector on a permanent basis from their site in Coventry. This is an onsite position, supporting the manufacture and introduction of specialist composite armour and defence protection products.

MANUFACTURING ENGINEER - £37,500 - £45,000 + DISCRETIONARY BONUS - COVENTRY - PERMANENT - COMPOSITES / DEFENCE

You'll join an engineering team delivering specialist defence protection products including armour plates, shields and helmets. The role combines new product introduction with hands-on process improvement, giving you the opportunity to work closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality and Programme teams.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you'll help take products and processes from engineering into repeatable manufacture. You'll support manufacturing readiness, develop and improve processes, create manufacturing instructions and PFMEAs, and use DFM principles to make products easier, safer and more efficient to manufacture.

You will also lead continuous improvement activity across established manufacturing processes, using Lean techniques including 5S, line balancing, flow and standard operations to improve quality, cost and productivity.
Skillset/experience required:
  • Previous Manufacturing Engineering experience within a relevant engineering, manufacturing or production environment
  • Composites experience
  • Experience supporting multiple manufacturing or assembly processes
  • Practical experience of press moulding and CNC machining
  • Experience introducing or improving manufacturing processes, ideally including NPI, manufacturing readiness or DFM
  • Good understanding of Lean manufacturing principles and practical continuous improvement
  • Experience using structured problem-solving techniques such as 5 Whys, Ishikawa or 8D
  • Ability to review or interrogate CAD models and support prototyping or initial production runs
  • Experience working collaboratively across Engineering, Operations, Quality and Programme teams
  • A Degree or HNC in a relevant engineering discipline would be advantageous
What's on offer?
  • £37,500 - £45,000 salary plus discretionary bonus
  • 25 days' annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional holiday
  • Flexible start and finish times, subject to operational requirements
  • Competitive pension scheme with 9% combined employer and employee contributions
  • Life cover at 3x base salary
  • BHSF Cash Healthcare Plan
  • Career development and progression opportunities within a global business
  • Additional paid leave provisions for Reservists, Cadets and eligible Cadet Force Adult Volunteers
This role would suit a Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys being close to the product and production environment, solving practical engineering problems and working collaboratively with different teams to make manufacturing processes better.
