MERITUS are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our cleint in an initial 12 month contract to lead Fluid Design projects in the Aerospace industry.

FLUID MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER - TECH LEAD - INSIDE IR35 - £50 PER HOUR - 12 MONTHS - FILTON, UK - SINGLE STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS

A leading aerospace manufacturer is seeking an experienced Fluid Mechanical Design Engineer to support advanced research and technology development within an engineering test environment.

The role will focus on the design, development, and delivery of specialised test systems used to investigate performance and safety characteristics of next-generation aviation fuels and fluid systems. The successful candidate will take a technical leadership role, guiding a project from early concept and architecture definition through detailed design, build, and commissioning.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for test system architecture and integration, supporting innovative research programmes within the aerospace sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the detailed design phase of a complex engineering test system, ensuring successful progression through major technical design reviews.

  • Develop and manage the build and implementation plan for the test rig or system.

  • Oversee verification and validation activities, ensuring the system is safe, functional, and ready for operational use.

  • Coordinate technical activities across the project team, ensuring priorities are clear and progress remains aligned with programme milestones.

  • Provide technical leadership and support to engineering team members, helping resolve design and integration challenges.

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure effective system integration and testing readiness.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working within an engineering test or laboratory environment.

  • Experience operating in hazardous or safety-critical engineering environments.

  • Knowledge of systems testing methodologies and verification processes.

  • Experience designing or working with large-scale, high-pressure fluid or mechanical systems.

  • Familiarity with hydro-mechanical instrumentation and installation.

  • Experience with data acquisition and logging systems used in engineering testing.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multi-disciplinary and international engineering teams.

  • Strong teamwork mindset with the ability to work in dynamic research and development environments.
