MERITUS are recruiting for a Senior Control Systems Software Engineer to join our client based in Glasgow to support the delivery of complex automation and energy infrastructure projects.

SENIOR CONTROL SYSTEMS SOFTWARE ENGINEER - £NEG (ENQUIRE FOR DETAILS) - GLASGOW (HYBRID, 3 DAYS ON-SITE) - SECTOR: ENERGY / INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION

  • Design, develop, and test PLC-based control system software solutions for energy sector applications using Siemens platforms.
  • Support project delivery across the full project lifecycle, from requirements definition and system design through to testing and commissioning.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation including functional design specifications, test procedures, and commissioning documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and clients to ensure successful technical project delivery.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and on-site commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to the delivery of reliable and high-performance control systems across critical energy infrastructure projects.

Skillset / experience required:

Essential:

  • Strong experience designing and programming Siemens PLC systems including TIA Portal, S7, and PCS7.
  • Proven experience delivering PLC, SCADA, and DCS control systems within energy or industrial environments.
  • Good understanding of control systems engineering across the full project lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61131 programming languages including Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Structured Text.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with the capability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and clients.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within Power Generation, Utilities, Renewables, or other highly regulated sectors.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and site-based project activities.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols and networking.
  • Experience producing technical specifications and test documentation.
  • Understanding of systems integration and industrial automation environments.
