Management Buy-In at Rapidly Growing Recruitment Group

Welsh recruitment company Recolution Group have announced a change of leadership at board level which sees founding director Duncan Powell exit the business after 15 years of service.

The Recolution Group is one of the UK’s fastest growing independently owned recruitment companies and is well known both within the UK and its wider European markets. Their brands include Yolk Recruitment, City Executive Search, Conexus DX and Meritus Talent. Founded by co-founders Dale Williams and Duncan Powell in 2009, the group has historically concentrated on permanent recruitment and has grown annually year on year to a 20million pound turnover company. In recent years, the group has accelerated growth within its rapidly growing European contract arm which has created the foundations to reach 50 million revenues by 2029.

On exiting the business, Duncan Powell said:

“In 2009, Dale and I set out to shake up the recruitment industry by establishing our first brand: Yolk Recruitment. For 15 years, we overcame every obstacle that came our way including the financial crisis, geo-political and economic volatility and of course Covid. I am extremely proud to be able to exit the business at its strongest point in history and leave knowing that the group is in expert hands."

On introducing the terms of the management buy-in and Mr Powells exit, Founder and CEO Dale Williams said:

“After 15 years in business with my founding partner and friend, we move onto a new chapter in our ever-evolving growth story. For the past 3 years, Pavan Arora in his role as MD of Yolk Recruitment has excelled in establishing a formidable structure to take us to new heights and I am delighted to welcome him into the role of Chief Operating Officer for our Group. Kevin Evans, CFO, has been with the group for 10 years and has been influential in establishing the financial rigour and governance required to underpin our growth aspirations. The completion of the buy-in solidifies their commitment to establishing the Recolution Group as the largest and most successful Welsh recruitment group”.

The Recolution Groups head office is based in Cardiff along with its 65 staff, they also have offices in Barcelona and the Netherlands. The group recruits middle management and executive hires across commercial, financial services, legal, SAP, Defence, technology and engineering sectors with a global customer base including private and public sector organisations.

The UK labour market is tightening for junior engineers. Youth unemployment has risen to ~16% amongst 16-24 year olds, with nearly one million young people being NEET (not in employment, education or training). Engineering apprenticeships have fallen by approximately 40% since 2017, yet the UK manufacturing sector still needs an estimated 168,000 new workers per year. This creates a paradox: a skills shortage alongside a hiring bottleneck for junior candidates.

The UK space sector is growing at pace, but access to skilled talent is getting harder. According to the UK Space Agency, the UK space sector generates over £17 billion in annual income and employs more than 45,000 people. Growth ambitions continue to remain high, particularly in satellite technology, launch capability and space-enabled services. However, employers consistently report skills shortages across systems engineering, satellite communications, propulsion and ground segment operations.

The UK defence sector is growing. With increased geopolitical instability and sustained government investment, demand for skilled engineers, systems specialists and programme leaders continues to rise. At the same time, access to experienced, security-cleared talent remains constrained. For UK defence employers, ex-military professionals represent one of the most underutilised yet strategically aligned talent pools available.

Hiring aerospace engineers in the UK is increasingly complex. Demand for systems engineers, propulsion specialists, manufacturing engineers and avionics experts continues to outpace supply. According to ADS Group , the UK aerospace sector supports more than 100,000 direct jobs and remains one of the country's most R&D-intensive industries, but this sustained investment in innovation has increased competition for highly-specialised engineers. For those hiring for aerospace vacancies, reactive recruitment is no longer sufficient.
